2007 Season Preview
Cyclones look to rebuild, compete for
conference title next season
With a handful of second- and
third-place finishes, Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play, the men's golf
team is poised to challenge for the conference championship next season and
improve on their 8th place finish in the Region IV Tournament.
"Although we would have liked
to finish with higher rankings in the conference and in Region IV, it was a
satisfying season, and the team members gave it their all," said head coach Bob
Freudenthal said. "I look forward to the return of several of our freshmen
players next year."
Those players include Marc
Carter (Reavis), Chris Carvey (Stagg), Matt Crota (Eisenhower), Dave Keate
(Sandburg), Forrest McDonald (Reavis), Coltin Thomas (Shepard), and Dave Weber
(Sandburg).
"These guys are now familiar
with what it takes to play golf at the collegiate level, and I think next season
they'll really have an opportunity to demonstrate their progress," Freudenthal
said.
Earning post-season
recognition for the Cyclones this season was second-year player Chris
Blankenship (Mt. Carmel), who was selected as All-Conference.
