Men's
Basketball--Coaches |
The 2007-08 season is Dedrick
Shannon's fourth as head coach of the Cyclones. Shannon, a point guard on the
1995-96 team, returned to Moraine Valley with six years of coaching experience.
Compiling a 50-44 record in his three-year coaching career, Shannon looks to
build on the success of last year's team record of 19-13.
Before his appointment at Moraine
Valley, Shannon helped manage an independent basketball club/travel team. In
addition, he also served at the Blue Island Recreation Center as a volunteer
basketball coach and basketball coordinator, overseeing teams ranging
from K-12th grade and helping the program's overall growth and participation.
A graduate of Eisenhower High
School, Shannon was
a three-sport athlete at Eisenhower High School, including a team captain for football, basketball and baseball
and an all-conference selection for basketball during his senior year.
After high school, Coach
Shannon continued his basketball playing career at Moraine Valley, captaining
the 1995-96 team.
"I believe in
balancing hard work, physical preparation, and a commitment to academics,"
Shannon said.
Armed with that philosophy, he has helped his players attain a number of their
goals on the court, and has helped them to reach their academic goals as
well.
Chris Lewis
Assistant Coach
Chris Lewis joined the Cyclones
as an assistant coach in 2004. Lewis, who also played football and basketball at
Eisenhower High School, was an all-state quarterback and an all-conference
selection in basketball during his senior year. Lewis went on to play football
at Indiana State University from 2000-2003.
Dan Lange
Assistant Coach
Dan Lange
joined the Moraine Valley staff for the 2005-06 season. Lange lettered in
basketball and track at Eisenhower High School as well as in basketball at St.
Mary's University in Minnesota. He coached high school basketball from 1984 to
2005, including the boy's varsity basketball at Andrew High School from 1994-97
and at Carl Sandburg High School from 2002-05, where he led the team to the 2005 IHSA Regional title in 2005, posting a 21-8 record. |
