Theater
Moraine Valley's theater classes offer basic training in theater and drama that students need for a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theater. Our theater professors have advanced degrees from top universities and are innovative teachers and theater practitioners. The faculty is not only interested in teaching students, but in allowing you to try your own creative wings in a challenging and stimulating atmosphere.
Each year, the Theater Department stages several major productions with opportunities for actors and technicians. Student aide positions are available in the Box Office and scene shop, where you can earn money and learn the day-to-day activities of these important areas. Many productions are Associate Entries in the Kennedy Center/American College Theater Festival, and students and faculty receive feedback from objective respondents on their performances. Students nominated from these productions attend the KC/ACTF Region III Festival to compete for the Irene Ryan Acting Award and attend acting workshops.
Associate in Arts Degree
Students wishing to obtain a degree in theater may begin with
transferable theater course work in the Associate in Arts degree program.

Facilities
In Moraine Valley's Theater Department, you'll find top-notch facilities designed to give you the best theatrical experience possible.
Dorothy Menker Theater
The 600-seat Dorothy Menker Theater is a proscenium theater with a
movable orchestra pit. The theater is beautifully designed with excellent
acoustics, sightlines, and cutting-edge theatrical equipment. Our theater
productions are performed here, and you can enjoy superb professional
productions in theater, dance, and music throughout the year.
John and Angeline Oremus Theater
Featuring an overhead "trampoline grid" for dynamic light and sound
design, Moraine Valley's flexible theater space is the 150-seat John and
Angeline Oremus Theater. In this "black-box" setting, productions can be
mounted arena, thrust, proscenium, or environmental style, depending on the
play's needs and the director's vision. It's also used as an acting and
stagecraft classroom.
Costumes and Set-Building
Moraine Valley boasts highly functional set and costume-building
spaces. The scene shop has all the necessary tools for building and painting
sets. The costume shop has several types of sewing machines, as well as
laundry facilities, a dye vat, and crafts area. In addition to attending
classes in these facilities, you may be hired as a student aide to assist
the technical director.
