Adult Learners —The New Traditional Student

At Moraine Valley Community College, more than 6,400 adults enroll in credit and noncredit courses each semester. Adult learners bring rich life experiences, talents and diversity to the classroom that add value to a college education. Our faculty members understand the many responsibilities and obligations adults have and do their best to make everyone feel comfortable.

Adult Learner Program
The Program includes a selection of credit courses designed to assist adults with the transition to campus life, to explore strategies for college success, and to begin coursework toward general education requirements. In this program, adults learn to meet the challenges of being a student again while balancing current commitments.

Education that fits your busy lifestyle

  • Attend day, evening or weekend classes at our main campus, the Moraine Valley Education Center at Blue Island, or the Southwest Education Center in Tinley Park
  • Complete your coursework online
  • Earn your degree in less time with our Fast Track Program, short-term classes and one-night-a-week classes

Achieved Prior Learning

  • Earn college credit for what you already know from prior learning or work experience.

CLEP

  • Earn college credit by achieving a satisfactory score on an examination.

Additional Support Services

  • Career planning and assistance with choosing the right classes
  • Academic tutoring
  • Day care for your children while you are enrolled in classes
  • Help with obtaining financial assistance
  • Job Resource Center to make sure you’re prepared
  • Adult Basic Education (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL) and General Educational Development (GED)
