Steps to Enroll
Step 1 _________________________________________________
Admission Process (Full-time students)
(Part-time students skip to Step 4)
Note: If you are currently attending Moraine Valley Community College or
have completed an enrollment form or attended within the past year, you do
not need to submit an enrollment form.
To enroll, fill out an admission form online, call Registration at (708) 974-2110, or stop by the Admissions Office in the Student Services Center (Building S), S101.
Submit transcripts
Submit all previous high school GED transcripts and college transcripts. If
you are currently attending another college or university, have the
transcript sent at the end of the semester. Graduate transcripts are only
required if needed to show prior college math or English credit.
Each high school or college must mail the transcripts to Records Department, S103, Moraine Valley Community College, 9000 W. College Pkwy., Palos Hills, IL 60465-2478.
Step 2 _________________________________________________
Take placement exam
There is a college placement exams requirement for all new full-time
students in the subject areas of English, Math and Reading. Part-time
students interested in enrolling in English or Math courses must also
complete the college placement exams. To gain an exemption from the required
college placement exams, students must submit a copy of their ACT (American
College Testing) scores of 20 or higher in English, Math and Reading to the
office of New Student Retention (Student Services Center).
Students will use a personal computer in Moraine Valley’s Testing Center, located in Bldg. B, Room B101, to complete the COMPASS test. COMPASS is untimed, but students should plan to spend up to two hours for the full placement test. Placement tests results will be available immediately.
Pre-registration and pre-payment is required for placement testing. Registration for the COMPASS placement test can be done online or in person.
- Use MVConnect. Login using your assigned username and password. On the Self-Service menu, click Registration. Select Search, Register, and Pay for Non-Credit classes. Select Placement Testing in the Topic Code drop-down box and click Submit. Click the box next to the section you would like to register for and click Submit. Continue through remaining screens and submit your payment.
- In person: You may choose to register for any scheduled COMPASS/placement test session that will be offered Monday-Friday. Stop by the Registration Office, Bldg. S, Room S103, to register. Payment of $25 is due at the time of registration. Please proceed to the Casher’s Office, Bldg. S, Room S105. Bring your receipt to the Testing Center, Bldg. B, Room 101.
New students must complete English composition, reading and math placement testing prior to attending an orientation program.
Currently enrolled students must pre-register and pre-pay for placement testing before registering for English composition, reading or math classes.
Previously Earned College Credit
If you've previously earned college credit, you may be exempt from some or
all of the placement tests. Just submit a college transcript or grade report
showing a "C" or better in a college-level (101 or higher) English
composition/rhetoric course and/or mathematics course to the Academic
Advising Center, Bldg. S, Room S201.
Act Scores
An ACT score of 20 or above in English, reading and mathematics may be used
in place of some or all of the placement tests. To qualify for an exemption,
students need to bring a copy of their ACT scores to the Academic Advising
Center.
- A score of 20 or above in English and reading exempts you from the English/reading placement test.
- A score of 20 or above in mathematics exempts you from the mathematics placement test.
It is the student's responsibility to go to the Testing Center, located in Building B, Room B101, for college placement testing. Students will receive test results immediately after the completion of the exams. It is recommended that students review www.actstudent.org/sampletest to prepare for the placement exams. In addition, there is a COMPASS study guide at the circulation desk in the library, Building L and in the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, Building S, Student Services Center. The placement exam can be taken twice before registration for classes.
Step 3 _________________________________________________
Attend orientation
Orientation is mandatory for all new, full-time students. Students cannot
register until they have attended orientation. At orientation, students will
review their placement test results, as well as receive information on
programs and services, educational planning assistance, and class scheduling.
