College Prep Institute

The College Prep Institute prepares current and recently graduated high school students for college by providing them with opportunities in academics and college transition to ensure student success once they attend Moraine Valley. We promote student success by providing a learning centered environment and a top-notch staff to develop students academically.

The College Prep Institute is committed to increasing student success and reducing the amount of time students spend in remedial classes. We provide academic programs that build academic skills for at-risk students, provide workshops that stress strengths and how to use them, and help develop the transitioning skills necessary to meet the challenges of the college environment.

What is college readiness?

  • The level of preparation a student needs to be ready to enroll and succeed—without remediation—in a credit-bearing course
  • The level of preparation that students bring to college as they transition from high school

Why is college readiness critical today?

  • Helps students to become ready for college and the workforce
  • Increases the development of a diverse and talented workforce

Did You Know?

  • The National Center for Education Statistics in 2004 reported 63 percent of public two-year institutions, 28 percent of public four-year institutions, and 17 percent of private four-year institution students averaged a year or more of remedial course taking.
  • More than 45,000 students did not graduate from Illinois high schools in 2009, which equates to a loss of more than $12 billion in lifetime earnings for just that class.
  • If all Illinois high school students graduated after completing their senior year, the state could save more than $200 million a year in community college costs and lost earnings.
