FAQs
Moraine
Valley CLEP Information Sheet
What
is CLEP?
CLEP, the College Level Examination Program, is the most widely accepted
credit-by-examination program in the country. More than 2,800 accredited
institutions of higher education award credit for satisfactory scores on CLEP
examinations.
Each 90-minute examination allows
you to demonstrate your knowledge in a wide range of subjects. You are
recognized and rewarded for what you know, no matter how or where you learned
it--in school, on the job, or through your own reading, observation and
independent study. CLEP can help you get the college credits you need to reach
your career and educational goals more quickly.
Moraine Valley is an open test center. Moraine Valley offers all CLEP exams.
For a complete list of CLEP examinations, visit the CLEP Web site at
www.collegeboard.com/clep.

Where and when are the
exams administered?
Exams are given in the Testing Center, B101.
CLEP mandates that test takers present two forms of identification at the time of
testing. The primary form must be a government-issued photo ID with signature,
such as a passport, state-issued driver's license, state-issued ID card, tribal
ID, naturalization card, or certificate of citizenship. The secondary form of
ID must have a photo or signature such as a Social Security card, student ID,
credit card, or employee ID. All DANTES-funded military candidates must present
a current military ID. If you fail to present appropriate ID, you will not be
tested.
When and how can I
register for an exam?
Information for Candidates
Please come to Academic Outreach office, B260 to fill out a
registration form and pick a test time. Register early to get your preferred date and time.
Moraine Valley is an open CLEP testing center. Download the
Information for Candidates
brochure, which includes the registration/admission form as well as other useful information about CLEP,
or stop by B260 to pick up a copy.

How can I prepare to
take the CLEP?
The CLEP official Study Guide describes each CLEP test, provides sample test
questions, and lists additional study resources. It also discusses
test-taking skills and preparation tips.
Please Note: Composition exam study guide downloads from the CLEP
website will be free until October.
Copies are on reserve in the Library/Learning Resources
Center and can be purchased at the College Bookstore, local book stores or online at www.collegeboard.com/clep.
Look for it in local libraries as well. If you're taking just one or two
CLEP exams, you'll save money by purchasing an Exam Guide for a specific
subject, available as a downloadable PDF, instead of the comprehensive study
guide. CLEP's Web site offers these
individual exam study guides which may be downloaded for $10. Please visit the CLEP Web
site at www.collegeboard.com/clep.
How are CLEP scores
indicated on Moraine Valley transcripts?
CLEP scores are listed on Moraine Valley transcripts as CLEP General Credit with
the score shown in parentheses.
CLEP scores are entered on a Moraine Valley
transcript only at the student's request. To do so, complete a
Transfer Credit Evaluation Request at the Admissions office in the College
Center. The student must be registered in credit classes and have paid
tuition for the current semester in order to have CLEP credit evaluated.
The student must be working toward a degree or certificate program for an
evaluation to be done.
You will receive your score report immediately upon completion of testing.
Scores for the "English Composition with Essay" test are available four to five
weeks after the exam date.
Moraine Valley students: To have CLEP scores posted to your
transcript, you must be currently enrolled and taking classes in the semester
you are registering for the CLEP exam and/or registered for the following
semester at Moraine Valley Community College.
CLEP
cannot be used to complete a grade of “I” or “W” or to repeat a course for a
higher grade.
How will CLEP scores
transfer?
Passing scores for each test are determined by each college. Check with
the registrar of your transfer school to verify CLEP acceptance and passing
