Other Student Support Services

Moraine Valley offers various services to help students reach their academic and career goals.

Academic Advising Center, College Center, Second Floor, Room C250, (708) 974-5721
Advisors provide information regarding requirements for all Moraine Valley degrees and certificates. They also assist with selecting transfer schools and choosing transferable courses appropriate to your major. 

Academic Skills Center/Tutoring, Building B, Room B260 and Room B284, (708) 974-5340
Moraine Valley students can get free tutoring for mathematics, accounting, biology, English, chemistry, physics, reading, and other subjects. No appointment is necessary. Special seminars are offered to help you brush up on basic skills. 

Athletics, Building G, Room G217, (708) 974-5727 
The college provides an opportunity to obtain an education while participating in a winning intercollegiate athletics program. It's a heritage we're proud of. We recruit the best local athletes to compete against the finest community colleges in the Midwest and compete at the national level. By combining a solid education with participation in athletics, Moraine Valley provides a well-rounded college experience for you to prepare for the future.

Textbooks and supplies may be purchased here. The store also has greeting cards, stamps, novelty gifts, Moraine Valley clothing, book bags, and more. During finals week, the book buy-back takes place in the student lounge area near the store. 

Center for Advanced Studies, Buildings A and B, Rooms A145 and B240, (708) 974-5768 
The center offers educational opportunity for community members to complete a bachelor's degree, earn credits toward the master's degree or simply continue education. 

Center for Disability Services, Building L, Room L150, (708) 974-5711 
The center makes educational opportunities more accessible by coordinating support services for Moraine Valley students with disabilities. The center serves students with learning disabilities; hearing, visual or mobility impairments; and/or other documented disabilities. All support services are provided on an individual basis to ensure equal access to all programs.

Children's Learning Center, College Center, First Floor, Room C101, (708) 974-5729 
Children learn to work and play under the guidance of Moraine Valley's child-care professionals. Students' children, ages 2 to 6 years, are enrolled on a first-come basis. Parents must be on campus or involved in school-related activities. Your child may be enrolled when you have proof of completed registration.

Counseling and Career Development Center, College Center, Second Floor, Room C220, (708) 974-5722 
Counselors provide many support services to help you achieve success in college, including career counseling to help you decide a career direction, educational counseling to help you select a major, academic counseling to help you improve your grades, and personal counseling if you want to discuss personal concerns that may interfere with your progress in college. You can arrange to meet with a counselor individually, participate in a workshop or small group discussion and even take a college course taught by a counselor! 

Financial Aid, College Center, First Floor, Room C115, (708) 974-5726 
Through grants, loans, scholarships, work/study, and other resources, Moraine Valley's Financial Aid Office can help eligible students obtain financial assistance for educational expenses.

Job Placement Center, Building T, Room T903, (708) 974-5737 
The center provides information on current job openings, help with job search techniques such as resumes, cover letters and interviewing, an extensive library of print and electronic resources on job search topics, and Internet connection to assist students in their job search.

Learning Development Support System, Center for Disability Services, Room L150, (708) 974-5711 
LDSS is a supportive program designed for students with learning disabilities who have the potential to succeed at the college level.

Robert E. Turner Learning Resources Center/Library, Building L, Second Floor, Room L210, (708) 974-5234
The Learning Resources Center/Library (LRC) provides a variety of services and resources to help students attain educational goals. Located within the library are audiovisual, circulating, and reference book collections; a listening-viewing area; and the Electronic Resources Center. Two labs with Internet access for classroom and open-lab use are available.

Multicultural Student Affairs, College Center, Second Floor, Room C247, (708) 974-5475 
Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) brings together staff from the Minority Student Transfer Center and the LEAP Program to promote the success of students of color, and students for whom English is their second language. MSA provides encouragement and support, and coordinates individual and group activities to promote students' integration into the college environment and for academic success.

Student Support Services is designed specifically for students who are the first in their families to attend college, students with economic disadvantages and students with documented physical or learning disabilities. Student Support Services provides students support and encouragement and the necessary tools for personal development, academic excellence, and staying in college until completion of a bachelor's degree.

Testing Center, Building B, Room B101, (708) 974-5309
The center provides placement tests in reading, writing and mathematics that are used to place students in the appropriate level of reading, English composition and mathematics. Testing is available for foreign language proficiency, credit and placement. The center also serves as a test-monitoring site that allows students to take tests outside of the regular classroom setting.

Here's where students can take tests outside the regular classroom setting. Appropriate arrangements must be made with the instructor. A Moraine Valley student photo ID is required.

Writing Center, Learning Resource Center/Library, Room B260, (708) 974-5235 
This center offers all students assistance with writing assignments, encourages excellence in communication skills through one-to-one conferencing, and builds students' confidence in their ability to communicate effectively.
