Systems Appraisal
The Systems Appraisal Feedback Report,
received in October 2008, assesses the maturity and identifies strengths
and opportunities for improvement within each of the AQIP Systems
Portfolio’s nine characteristics. A team of seven reviewers, trained by the Higher
Learning Commission, read our Systems
Portfolio and produced this report.
The Systems Appraisal Feedback Report,
which can be accessed by clicking on the report found on the
right side of this page, includes the following components:
Compliance with the Criteria for Accreditation - The Systems
Appraisal team concluded that Moraine Valley Community College has
presented evidence that it complies with each of the five criteria for
accreditation and each of their core components. Although the Systems
Appraisal does not in itself constitute a review for continued
accreditation, the team’s conclusion upon reviewing our portfolio
against the criteria serves as evidence during the Commission’s next
scheduled AQIP review for Reaffirmation of Accreditation.
Critical Characteristics – These statements, derived from the
Institutional Overview section at the beginning of the portfolio,
provide context for the appraisal team’s understanding of our identity,
mission, strategic goals and key factors related to improvement.
Category Feedback – Within each of nine categories identified in
the table of contents, the appraisal team used the following letters to
rate each of our responses.
SS – significant strength
S – strength
O – opportunity
OO – outstanding opportunity
When the appraisal team provided
multiple comments for the same item, they numbered them using 1P1A and
1P1B, etc.
Strategic and Accreditation Issues – The appraisal team
identified broad issues that present our greatest challenges and
opportunities in the coming years.
Common continuous improvement themes run throughout the category feedback
and strategic issues identified in our report:
-
We can benefit from a comprehensive,
systematic, integrated, cohesive system to 1) clearly define and
align processes, 2) measure effectiveness, 3) analyze the
measurement data we’ve collected, and 4) use it to improve
processes.
-
Benchmarking against other
institutions, which is a common practice in continuous improvement,
is also repeatedly recommended as something we should pursue.
Next Steps - The feedback
included in the Systems Appraisal Report will guide and support Moraine
Valley’s ongoing efforts to continuously improve our activities,
programs and services.
In order to facilitate our review of the Systems Appraisal Feedback
Report, a document that combined our Systems Portfolio and the Systems
Appraisal Feedback report has been created. In this combined AQIP
Portfolio and Appraisal Report, each of Moraine Valley’s responses is
followed by the appraisal team’s ratings and comments. When the
appraisal team provided multiple comments for the same item, they
numbered them using 1P1A and 1P1B, etc. This report is also available on
the right side of this page.
